Spirit 4

Spirit 4 - Powerful and dynamic sound

The Spirit 4 is a very flexible and versatile bookshelf speaker, which can be either used as an excellent stereo setup, with pinpoint imaging and wide soundstage, or integrated into a thrilling surround system. As the Spirit 4 uses the same tweeter and mid/bass driver as the Spirit 11, sonically, it is a perfect match and able to perform with precision and accuracy. Despite the compact size of its cabinet, the deep bass qualities are astonishing. The implementation in a stereo system is recommended in rooms where powerful and dynamic sound is desired, but where there is not enough space for larger speakers.

Drivers
Drivers

The 25mm silk dome tweeter was customized for the Spirit-series and thus fits perfectly to the mid/bass drivers. Due to the waveguide technology, the dispersion pattern, as well as efficiency were optimized. The Tweeter, which is used for Spirit 4 is a 25 mm silk dome which has been developed and adjusted especially for this application over years. It has been designed together with its waveguide to achieve a perfect match concerning precision and dynamics. The XTZ developed mid/bass driver, a customized long-stroke woofer is used which has proven its capabilities concerning the reproduction of deep yet articulate bass. It harmonizes perfectly with the tweeter, leading to a natural and balanced sound.

Sound Tuning
Sound Tuning

On the Rear Panel of the Spirit 4, there is a jumper, which allows adjustment of the tweeter output level to the prevailing room acoustics, or your personal preference. Furthermore, it is possible to close the bass reflex port on the Rear Panel, with the attached plug, which alter the Low Frequency characteristics of the speaker.
This enables placement of the speaker near a wall and drive it in sealed mode to compensate for the bass increase, due to the wall boundary effect.

Cabinet
Cabinet

The cabinet of the Spirit 4 is equipped with a 25mm front panel and 18mm side and rear panels, all made from MDF. Together with the additional internal bracing, this provides a very solid and inert cabinet construction, hence the high weight and the massive impression of the speaker. To further minimize the already reduced internal resonances, a large amount of internal damping material is also utilized, hence the weight of 6.8kg per speaker. So the Spirit 4 plays the deepest bass frequencies, always with precision and composure.

Surface

The cabinets are painted with a perfectly finished multi-layer paint which make the speakers aesthetically appealing in a domestic environment.
In matt black as well as matt white, the Spirit 4 looks as refined as it sounds.

Speaker Terminals
Speaker Terminals

The gold plated screw terminals guarantee an optimum connection for your speaker cables. Thus a safe connection and best signal transmission can be ensured. In addition the terminal contains the jumper for the adjustment of the tweeter output level.

Front Grille
Front Grille

The detachable grille protects the drivers from dust and also from possible damage. To ensure perfect sound transmission, the grille is Acoustically Transparent and does not have any influence on the sound of the speaker.

Further Information

Tweeter

The tweeter of the Spirit series is a 25mm silk dome which has already proven its great abilities concerning its power handling and impulse response. It is driven by a high performance magnet system to optimize the sensitivity, dynamics and power handling. The cooling is provided by a low viscosity ferro fluid and a high power alloy voice coil made of aluminum and copper. Due to the waveguide technology the relative SPL capacity and sensitivity increases which leads to a minimized distortion both in high and low playback volume. The waveguide helps further to balance the dispersion in a perfect way to give a similar sound character independent of the angle. Furthermore, the waveguide allows a lower crossover frequency which makes the dispersion pattern of the mid/bass driver match the pattern of the tweeter. Thus, the overall dispersion is perfectly balanced and controlled. The dome itself has a built-in protection against damages and finds back to its original shape after a gentle push. To ensure a stiff and stable connection to the cabinet, the front is made out of 5mm thick massive aluminium covered with rubber to dampen resonances.

Midrange / Woofer Driver

The mid/bass driver originates our own development laboratory and is customized to fit the Spirit speakers perfectly. Its membrane consists of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) and a long fiber pulp mixture in a special sandwich construction to even further increase its stiffness. Due to the lightweight materials, the cone provides an extraordinary stiffness-weight ratio and reduces resonances effectively. The spider is made of a mixture of cotton with nomex fiber. To ensure a nearly perfect impulse response, a specially developed and extremely strong magnet system is used. Its linearity provides a long stroke without compression and enables the speaker to handle a wide frequency range. Thus, the speaker can perform any stroke with highest accuracy. The voicecoil wire is made of a high temperature alloy of aluminium and copper to ensure an effective heat dissipation. To further avoid any edge resonances, a specially customized butylrubber surround is used.

Crossover
Crossover

The ornate frequency crossover ensures a perfect transition between the drivers. Thus the frequency crossover as well as the phase transition are optimized to provide maximum listening pleasure. The high class capacitors and low impedance coils ensure a perfect signal transmission. To further minimize any unintended influences, the internal cables consist of high purity copper which reduces the transmission resistance.

Sound Tuning
Sound Tuning

Since every room is unique from an acoustical point of view, the speakers of the Spirit series are equipped with several room tuning possibilities. The bassreflex port on the backside can be closed with the attached plugs which alters the basic characteristics of the speaker. It is for example possible to place the speaker near a wall and drive it in closed mode to compensate the bass increase due to the walls. Furthermore there is a jumper located at the terminal of the speaker which can be used to adjust the tweeter level to the prevailing acoustics and the personal preferences.
